So this page is short. It holds what we would tell you sitting down, in the order you are likely to need it, and nothing we would want to sell you.

Answered at every hour of every day, by one of the four of us.

You call, and a person answers. We come to bring the one who died into our care, and we bring the single page that has to be signed tonight. Everything else waits until you have slept, and we will sit with you then, for as long as that takes.

If the death happened in a hospital or a care home, the staff there will stay with you until we arrive. If it happened at home, call us first and we will tell you who else has to be called, and in what order.

These are our prices in full. They are the same at three in the morning as at three in the afternoon, and the same for everyone who walks through the door.

Flowers, catering, the cemetery plot and the newspaper notice are paid to those suppliers at their own price. We add nothing on top of them, and we will show you their invoices.

You can arrange all of this in advance and pay for it over time, or simply write down what you want and leave the cost to your family. Both are ordinary. Neither costs anything to talk about.

We are on the road above the harbour. The door is open from nine to five on weekdays, and if the door is shut the phone still works. You are welcome to sit in the chapel for a while before you decide anything, and nobody will come and find you.
